The fractional gold eagles (i.e. 1/2oz, 1/4oz and 1/10oz versions) are popular among investors for their smaller and convenient unit sizes. The 1/4oz denomination has been favorite since its inception in 1986; it regularly sports higher mintages than its 1/2oz counterpart. It carries an official U.S. Government-backed face value of $10 and is struck in 22-karat gold. They are issued in quantities of 40 per U.S. Mint tube.
