The Silver Australian Kangaroo is the first silver bullion coin from the Perth Mint to be produced with a purity of .9999. The Perth Mint, together with its no longer running counterparts in Melbourne and Sydney, was originally a part of the British Royal Mint.
The Kangaroos, as are all bullion products from the Perth Mint, are considered legal tender under Australia’s Currency Act of 1965. The coin is designated with a ‘P’ mintmark (for the Perth Mint) and bears the minting date, purity and weight and has a face value of 1 AUD. The Kangaroo also has similar security features to the new silver Maples, making counterfeiting more difficult.
- Eligible for Precious Metals IRAs.
- Obverse: An image of a kangaroo, along with the purity, weight and minting year.
- Reverse: The profile of Queen Elizabeth II and the coin’s face value.
